Do yourself a favour and have a splurge here!!! Staff are very friendly and simply - nothing is a problem for them to help you have a wonderful stay. They even lent us their bicycles during our stay! The rooms ate beautiful and the breakfasts were fantastic. Make sure you order dinner in advance for an amazing Japanese experience! This place was a highlight of our trip to Japan and I can't recommend it highly enough!! The owner even drove us to the station without us even asking! :)))) On my next trip to Japan I would combine a trip here just so I could enjoy it all again!!

This ryokan is not far from station. It's not quite big when see from outside, however, it look wide when come in and design layout impress me. There're many facility : onsen and free-internet wifi !!! ....and Ryokan staff is so friendly and can speak english well. This's one of many good memorial in Takayama.

The location is good and unbeatable as it's just next door to the main tourist attractions in town, and galleries. You can relax at Tavern Shabu-tei, located nearby. The breakfast is delicious with local products, there’s an option for each taste.

Everything is what i need and want.

Our hosts we so helpful and so were the staff. The facilities were lovely-- paintings, carvings, the huge lion head representing the protector of the establishment--rub its nose for luck; a little garden and a lovely steaming hot public bath--women and men separate. The breakfasts were traditional Japanese and delicious served in an impressive dining room. The room also had a little fridge and bar--a separate sitting area. The sliding screen windows and doors made me feel as if I were in a japanese woodblock print. The futons were comfortable and at our age so much easier to get out of than down into! We were given lovely kubata and jackets and slippers. All in all--such an enjoyable area to travel and see the mountains and valleys of the area. Don't miss the little hamlet of Shirakawago with the houses with thatched roofs. It's a great bus ride of about 50 minutes through the valleys--the autumn colours were so fantastic--reminded us of the Gatineau outside of Ottawa in Ontario.Maple leaves are loved and celebrated by Japanese and Canadians alike! Great restaurants in Takayama--Hida beef is gorgeous--and we loved the market every morning as well as the mechanical puppet museum, the lacquerware museum etc etc and don't miss the beautiful carvings out of yew. Tfhere are a couple of shops owned by the artists themselves. There's an amazing large painting at the top of the stairs which blew me away--it is by the famous artist Kaburagi Kiyotaka who was renowned for his paintings of "beautiful women". This portrait must be of his wife perhaps? She is sitting at the base of a sand dune with delicate grasses blowing in the top left hand corner--she is dressed beautifully in various shades of grays and blues and she is wearing oval wire-rimmed spectacles. She looks like someone who is not only intelligent, but fun-- someone you'd like to have tea with! Beautiful in a more realistic way. I wish Ryokan Asunaro had a post card with this painting on it.

Great vibe all around! the hotel looks stunning inside, and the staff is super friendly and on point with their manners. Plus, you can't beat the awesome location near yatai kaikan 😉.

Loved the hotel, it was quirky with great and perfect location in quiet neighborhood. The employees were welcoming and outstandingly accommodating. Location: the venue was not far from main shopping street, galleries, and the main tourist attractions in town.
